Instagram Image Resizer
To resize a picture for Instagram, choose square, portrait (1080 × 1350), landscape, or Story and Reel (1080 × 1920), then fill and crop, or fit and pad so nothing is cut off. Uploading the exact size stops Instagram re-compressing your image and softening text. The picture is resized in your browser.

How to use Instagram Image Resizer
- 1Add the picture.
- 2Choose the format — square, portrait, landscape, or Story and Reel.
- 3Pick fill and crop, or fit and pad if nothing may be cut off.
- 4Download the JPG and upload that.
How it works
Instagram stores posts at 1080 pixels wide, at one of a few fixed proportions. Uploading something that does not match means the app scales and re-compresses it on the way in, and that second pass is what turns crisp text soft and clean gradients blocky.
Fill and crop scales the picture until it covers the frame and trims the overflow, which suits photographs. Fit and pad scales it until the whole picture fits and fills the rest with a colour, which is what you want for a graphic, a screenshot or anything with text near the edge.
Portrait posts at 1080 × 1350 take up the most room in the feed, which is why so many accounts prefer them. Stories and Reels are 1080 × 1920, and the top and bottom of that frame are covered by the interface — keep anything important away from those edges.
Images are decoded by the browser, redrawn on a canvas and re-encoded on your own machine. Nothing is uploaded, so there is no waiting on a queue and no copy of your photos anywhere else.
Tips and common mistakes
- Use portrait (1080 × 1350) for feed posts you want noticed; it takes up the most screen space.
- Use fit and pad for graphics and screenshots so no text is cut off.
- In Stories and Reels, keep text and faces away from the top and bottom, which the app's buttons cover.
- In a carousel, give every image the same shape; Instagram uses one shape for the whole set.
