How to use Crop Image

How it works

The preview is a scaled version of your image, so the selection you draw is mapped back onto the full-resolution original before cropping. The output is therefore cut from the real pixels, not from the smaller preview — a 4000-pixel photo cropped to half its width gives a 2000-pixel result, not a preview-sized one.

Locking an aspect ratio constrains the selection as you drag, which is the reliable way to hit an exact 1:1 or 16:9 shape. Pixel fields let you type precise values when a platform demands a specific size.

Cropping is lossless in itself; the pixels you keep are unchanged. Any quality change comes only from the format you export to.

Images are decoded by the browser, redrawn on a canvas and re-encoded on your own machine. Nothing is uploaded, so there is no waiting on a queue and no copy of your photos anywhere else.

Does cropping reduce quality?
No. The pixels you keep are copied exactly. Only the export format affects quality, and PNG export is lossless.
What aspect ratio should I use for a profile picture?
1:1 (square) for almost every platform. Banners are usually 16:9 or 3:1 — the presets cover the common ones.
Can I crop to an exact pixel size?
Yes. Type the width and height you need into the pixel fields and position the selection by dragging.
