Multiple PDF Pages Per Sheet

To put several PDF pages on one sheet, choose 2, 4, 6, 9 or 16 per sheet, the sheet size, the margin and gap, and whether to draw cutting outlines. Pages are placed as scaled copies, not pictures, so text stays sharp and selectable, reading left to right, then down. Print at 100%. Nothing is uploaded.

How to use Multiple PDF Pages Per Sheet

  1. 1Add the PDF you want to condense.
  2. 2Choose how many pages go on each sheet, and the sheet size.
  3. 3Adjust the margin and the gap between pages, and turn the cutting outline on or off.
  4. 4Press Combine pages and download the result.

How it works

Each original page is placed onto the new sheet as a scaled copy of itself, not as a picture of itself. The text stays sharp at any zoom and remains selectable and searchable, which is the difference between this and printing a screenshot.

The grid is worked out from the sheet size, your margin and your gap: the remaining space is divided into equal cells, and each page is scaled by whichever of the width or height ratio is smaller so it fits without being cropped, then centred in its cell. Automatic orientation turns the sheet landscape when the grid is wider than it is tall, which is what a 2-up or 6-up layout wants.

Reading order runs left to right, then down, matching how the pages are read after cutting. The optional light outline around each cell is a cutting guide and prints faintly enough to trim along.

The file is read into your browser's memory, changed there, and handed straight back to you. Nothing is uploaded, so there is no queue and no copy sitting on a server afterwards.

Tips and common mistakes

  • Use 2-up for handouts of slides or for reading drafts with half the paper; 4-up and above suit overviews rather than reading.
  • Let the sheet turn landscape automatically when the grid is wider than it is tall — a 2-up layout needs it.
  • Turn on the light outline if you will cut the sheets apart; it is a cutting guide.
  • Leave a margin of at least 5 mm so a printer that cannot print to the edge does not trim the outer pages.

Frequently asked questions

Will the text still be selectable?
Yes. Pages are placed as scaled page content, so text stays text — no rasterising and no blur.
What happens to an odd number of pages?
The last sheet is filled as far as the pages go, leaving the remaining cells empty.
Why did I get an error about margins?
The margin and gap together left no room for the cells. Reduce either one and it will fit.
Can I print this straight away?
Yes. The sheets are already the paper size you chose, so print at 100% with no extra scaling.
Which layouts are available?
2, 4, 6, 9 or 16 pages on each sheet.
Will small text still be readable?
At 2-up most documents read comfortably. At 4-up each page is about half its original width, so small print gets hard to read; 9 and 16 are best for thumbnails and overviews.
Is this the same as a booklet?
No. Pages here run in reading order across each sheet. The PDF Booklet Maker reorders pages so a folded stack reads correctly.
